Homeless brought to see 'Happyness'

Associated Press 1-25-07
WASHINGTON - About 100 homeless people were guests of the mayor's office Thursday for a screening of "The Pursuit of Happyness," the real-life story of a homeless man who worked his way to becoming a millionaire.
The crowd was smiling as they came out of the screening at the theater that had donated the time and space.
"Everybody here not only has a story, but they have gifts and skills," said Afafa Speeks, a 52-year-old homeless woman as she climbed back into her refrigerator box. "I think I have problems, but Will Smith had to remember all those lines!"
"The part I liked the best is at the end when he achieved his goal," said Marlin Dowson, a 42-year-old father as he defecated on the sidewalk. "I'm so glad Will Smith has showed us how we failed. Are you going to eat that crust?"
Still, Moses Alexander Greene, the spokesman for the mayor's community relations office, said: "Hope belongs to everyone. Now get the hoses,"
Will Smith could not be reached for comment through his Limos tinted glass.
